New Delhi, May 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the two-day Rising North East Investors Summit at Bharat Mandapam in the capital, urging investors to recognize the North East as a land of vast opportunities and untapped potential.

The summit, being held on May 23 and 24, is designed to position the region as a thriving destination for domestic and international investment.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of the region in the country’s growth story, PM Modi stated that the development of Eastern India is critical to building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), with the North East playing the most pivotal role. He introduced a unique interpretation of “EAST” as the government’s core approach: Empower, Act, Strengthen, and Transform.

Calling the North East a symbol of India’s rich diversity, the Prime Minister described it as the most vibrant and diverse region of the country.
“Our India is called the most diverse nation in the world, and our Northeast is the most diverse part of this diverse nation, from trade to tradition, from textiles to tourism, its diversity is its greatest strength,” he said.

He elaborated on the region’s many strengths—bamboo and bio-economy, tea and petroleum, organic farming and ecotourism, sports and skills. He painted a vision of the North East as a rising force in energy and sustainability.
Referring to the eight Northeastern states as “Ashtalakshmi”—a nod to the Hindu goddess of wealth—PM Modi said each of them is now echoing the message: “We are ready for investment, we are ready for leadership.”
