PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, May 23: A fresh spell of severe weather is set to impact various parts of the state over the next several days, with the Ranchi Meteorological Centre issuing alerts for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall till May 28.

Forecasts for the next few days

May 23:

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph are expected at isolated locations across the state. The north-eastern parts will also experience stormy weather, though wind speeds are likely to be slightly lower at 40-50 kmph. Additionally, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated spots over the north-western and adjoining north-central regions.

May 24:

The entire state—except the north-east—remains under alert for thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph. The north-eastern parts will also experience thunderstorm activity but with slightly milder winds at 30-40 kmph.

May 25 to 28:

Thunderstorm and lightning activity, accompanied by winds of 40-50 kmph, is forecast at isolated locations throughout the state each day.

Weather System Update

The ongoing instability is linked to a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and its neighborhood down to central Madhya Pradesh. This trough passes through south Haryana and is supported by an upper-air cyclonic circulation located over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southeast Uttar Pradesh at about 1.5 km above mean sea level.

An advisory issued by the Met office asked people to avoid open areas during lightning, and secure loose objects as gusty winds may cause minor damage.

Farmers and outdoor workers should plan accordingly to avoid exposure during the most intense weather hours.
