Mumbai, Jan 15: Prime Minister Modi, on Wednesday, dedicated three advanced naval combatants – INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer – to the nation following their launch at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. All three are ‘Made in India.’

Experts suggest that the induction of these key combatants marks a significant step toward realizing India’s vision of becoming a global leader in defence manufacturing and maritime security.

Earlier, upon his arrival in Mumbai, the Prime Minister was accorded a Guard of Honor.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj provided Navy with new strength and vision: PM

PM Modi commended the Indian Navy and the manufacturers of the three naval warships on their induction into the Naval Dockyard. He also reflected on Chhatrapati Shivaji’s contributions to fortifying India’s maritime boundaries.

“15 January is also celebrated as Army Day. I salute all the brave who dedicate their life for the security of the country. Today is an important day for Indian Navy’s pride history and self-reliant campaign. Chhatrapati Shivaji gave new vision and strength to the Indian Navy. Today, we are taking a huge step to strengthen the Navy of the 21st century from his holy land. This is the first time when a destroyer, frigate and submarine, all three are being commissioned together into the Navy. These three frontline platforms are Made in India,” PM Modi stated.

India’s Naval prowess strengthened with INS Surat, Nilgiri and Vaghsheer

According to reports, INS Surat, the fourth ship under the P15B guided missile destroyer project, is among the world’s largest and most advanced destroyers, boasting 75% indigenous equipment. It is said to be equipped with a cutting-edge weapon-sensor package and advanced network-centric capabilities.

Notably, INS Nilgiri, the first ship of the P17A stealth frigate project, was designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau. Additionally, INS Vaghsheer, the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene project, built in collaboration with France’s Naval Group, is considered a testament to India’s growing expertise in submarine construction.
