New Delhi, June 5: In preparation for the formation of the next Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with his council of ministers, has submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu.

This will clear the way for the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha, which served from 2019 to 2024.

Accepting the resignation, the President urged PM Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue on until the next government took office.

This followed the Cabinet meeting that took place on Wednesday in this nation’s capital. The dissolution of the cabinet, whose tenure expires on June 16, was recommended during the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Modi’s swearing-in expected on June 8

Sources suggest that with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Janata Dal-United (JDU), the potential “kingmakers,” giving their consent, the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony are expected to occur on June 8.

NDA meeting today

At the NDA meeting, which is set for today at 3:30 pm, both parties are anticipated to provide formal letters of support to the BJP.

Meanwhile, senior NDA leaders began arriving in Delhi for an alliance meeting scheduled for 3:30 pm. During this meeting, NDA leaders are expected to discuss the specifics of forming the government.

BJP won 240 seats

The Election Commission of India declared the results of the Lok Sabha elections yesterday.

BJP was unable to cross the majority mark as it managed to secure 240 seats whereas Congress won 99 seats.

However, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by BJP won 292 seats and INDI Alliance secured 234 seats.

BJP’s key allies in the NDA, TDP and JDU won 16 and 12 seats respectively.
