Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 22: President Droupadi Murmu, who is on a four-day visit to Kerala from October 21, narrowly escaped a major mishap on Wednesday. The incident occurred in Pathanamthitta when she arrived at the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple for prayers and the evening aarti.

As the Indian Air Force helicopter carrying the President landed at the Pramadom Stadium, a portion of the helipad caved in under the aircraft’s weight. Fortunately, no major damage or injuries were reported, and the situation was quickly brought under control.

Police and fire department personnel deployed at the site immediately took charge and safely moved the helicopter from the sunken area. A video circulating on social media shows officials pushing the helicopter to a stable position.

President Murmu arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on October 21 for her four-day official visit, which includes several important engagements. On Wednesday, she visited the Sabarimala Temple.

On Thursday, she is scheduled to unveil a statue of former President K. R. Narayanan at Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. She will also inaugurate the centenary celebrations of the Mahasamadhi of Shri Narayana Guru at the Sivagiri Mutt in Varkala and attend the 75th-anniversary event of St. Thomas College in Pala, Kottayam district.

The President’s visit will conclude on October 24 after she participates in the centenary celebrations of St. Teresa’s College in Ernakulam.
