New Delhi, March 30: President Droupadi Murmu awarded the Bharat Ratna to four distinguished individuals on Saturday, which included two former Prime Ministers, namely Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao. The highest civilian award in the nation was also given to agronomist MS Swaminathan and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.
This year, the central government unveiled a list of five individuals to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, among whom is BJP leader LK Advani.
According to sources, President Murmu will visit senior BJP leader LK Advani at his home and present him with the coveted honour. They said that this decision was made in light of veteran BJP leader Advani’s medical condition.

Jayant Singh, the grandson of former Prime Minister Charan Singh, received the award on his behalf, while PV Prabhakar Rao, the son of PV Narasimha Rao, accepted his father’s award.
Nitya Rao, the daughter of MS Swaminathan, received the award on behalf of her father, and Ram Nath Thakur, the son of Karpoori Thakur, accepted his father’s award.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, and Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, were among the notable leaders present at the occasion, among others.
