Kuala Lumpur, May 23: Indian badminton player PV Sindhu who is also a two-time Olympic medalist, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Malaysia Masters tournament on Thursday.
Sindhu fought hard in her second-round encounter against Sim Yu Jin, the 34th-ranked shuttler in the world, of South Korea. In a 59-minute match, she defeated her 21-13, 12-21, and 21-14.
On Friday, she will play in the quarterfinals against Han Yue, the sixth-ranked player in the world.

In another match, 24-year-old Ashmita Chaliha, ranked world number 53, caused an upset by defeating the 10th-ranked Beiwen Zhang from the USA with scores of 21-19, 16-21, 21-12 in a 43-minute contest.
The Malaysia Masters, a Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 500 level tournament, is taking place from May 21 to 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
PV Sindhu has won the women’s singles title at the competition twice, in 2013 and 2016, while Saina Nehwal claimed the title in 2017.
