Jamshedpur, July 29: Widespread monsoon showers drenched Ranchi and several other parts of Jharkhand on Wednesday as a deep depression over eastern India intensified rainfall activity across the state, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a weather alert for 22 districts.

The active weather system is expected to keep the state under the grip of rain over the next 72 hours, with the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

The rainfall brought much-needed relief from humid conditions in several districts, although intense spells of rain led to waterlogging in low-lying areas.

According to the IMD, the deep depression, which originated over the Bay of Bengal and moved inland, continues to draw abundant moisture into the region, creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall across Jharkhand.

Heavy rain, thunderstorms likely till Friday

The weather office has warned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning may occur at isolated places and has advised people to avoid open fields, water bodies and taking shelter under trees during adverse weather.

Moderate to widespread rainfall is likely on Wednesday, with isolated heavy showers expected in several districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 30–40 kmph may also occur in some areas.

Similar weather conditions are expected on Thursday, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated locations across central, southern and eastern Jharkhand.

Residents advised to remain cautious

Although the intensity of rainfall is expected to gradually ease on Friday, cloudy skies, intermittent rain and thundershowers are likely to continue over most parts of the state.

The Meteorological Department has urged residents to remain vigilant, follow official weather updates and exercise caution in areas vulnerable to waterlogging, flash flooding and lightning as the active monsoon phase continues to influence weather conditions across Jharkhand.
