Jamshedpur, September 12: Jharkhand is likely to remain under generally cloudy skies on Saturday, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers expected at a few places as a weather system over the Bay of Bengal continues to influence conditions across the state.
Rainfall activity likely to weaken over the next few days
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast scattered rainfall activity on September 12. Rainfall intensity is expected to decline further over the next few days, with light to moderate showers likely at isolated places on September 13 and 14.
Weather conditions may become slightly more variable from September 15, when showers are again expected at a few places. The extended outlook indicates that rainfall will continue at a few places on September 16 before becoming isolated on September 17.
Daytime temperatures set to rise
Meanwhile, maximum temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged on Saturday. A gradual rise of around 2–3°C is likely over the following three days, signalling a return of warmer daytime conditions as rainfall activity weakens.
Bay system continues to influence Jharkhand
The prevailing weather is being driven by a low-pressure area over the northwest and westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh.
The system is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards across north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha, influencing weather conditions over adjoining regions.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to about 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height.
A trough extending from north Rajasthan through Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to the circulation associated with the low-pressure area also persists.
Intermittent showers likely across the state
With the monsoon trough remaining active across central India and extending towards the Bay system, Jharkhand is likely to experience intermittent showers and cloudy weather over the coming week. However, the overall intensity of rainfall is expected to gradually weaken.
For Jamshedpur and other parts of Kolhan, the forecast points to a mix of cloudy skies and occasional showers, with daytime temperatures likely to gradually increase after Saturday.
