Ranchi, March 27: Jharkhand Congress in-charge K. Raju emphasized that every Indian should remember the contributions of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Speaking at Rajiv Gandhi Senior Citizens’ Park, he highlighted Gandhi’s pivotal role in shaping modern India, particularly in the fields of digital technology, telecommunications, and decentralized democracy.

To honour his legacy, K. Raju garlanded Rajiv Gandhi’s statue and also paid tribute to Gopal Jha, a founding member of Rajiv Gandhi Park. He was accompanied by Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee President Keshav Mahto Kamlesh, former Finance Minister and MLA Dr. Rameshwar Oraon, and State Congress Committee General Secretary Alok Kumar Dubey. The leaders collectively paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi, acknowledging him as the father of India’s information revolution and a Bharat Ratna awardee.

Raju’s visit also focused on discussions about strengthening the Congress organization, addressing issues in private education, and recognizing outstanding contributions in education and social service.

Raju discusses HEC status

Raju then interacted with senior employees, discussing their role in nation-building after the establishment of the Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC). He also reviewed the current status of HEC in detail. Later, he met with former NSUI officials to discuss organizational strengthening.

During this meeting, he entrusted senior Jharkhand Congress leader Alok Kumar Dubey with the responsibility of organizing an NSUI alumni convention across the country and directed him to work toward further strengthening the organization.

Raju meets PASWA volunteers

Subsequently, K. Raju met with volunteers from PASWA to understand issues related to private schools and assured them of efforts to address their concerns. He praised PASWA’s initiatives, including the Student Talent Award Ceremony, the Teacher Award Ceremony, and various social service activities such as tree plantation drives, blood donation camps, COVID-19 relief efforts, and education promotion.

He also commended PASWA President Alok Kumar Dubey for his leadership, recognizing the organization’s contributions to social service and educational reforms. In a separate discussion with OBC Congress officials, he provided special instructions on strengthening the organization and making it more effective.

During the event, women who had made significant contributions to education were honoured. K. Raju appreciated the turnout, noting that despite challenges, a large number of people attended and made the program a success.

Raju’s Tribute to Rajiv Gandhi

Addressing the media, K. Raju emphasized that every Indian should remember Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions. He described Rajiv Gandhi’s role in shaping modern India, particularly in advancing digital technology and telecommunications, which helped India gain global recognition.

He highlighted Rajiv Gandhi’s efforts in strengthening decentralized democracy through the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, which empowered local governing bodies. These reforms also ensured reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and women, taking a revolutionary step toward social empowerment.

Raju also noted that Rajiv Gandhi played a crucial role in giving Indian youth the right to vote at 18, reducing the voting age from 21. This reform enabled young people to actively participate in democracy.

He further praised Rajiv Gandhi’s efforts in restoring peace, particularly in Punjab and Mizoram, and acknowledged his leadership in laying the foundation for India’s economic reforms. These reforms strengthened India’s economy and enhanced its global competitiveness.
