New Delhi, May 9: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi on Friday, following a series of drone attacks and ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the western border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting, conducted at South Block — the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence — came in the aftermath of Pakistan’s failed attempt to retaliate against India’s recent precision strikes on terror bases under Operation Sindoor.

The Defence Minister was briefed by the top military leadership, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Naval Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, and Defence Secretary RK Singh.

In a statement, the Indian Army confirmed that during the intervening night of May 8 and 9, Pakistan launched multiple drone strikes and opened fire at several locations along the LoC. These provocations were effectively countered, with Indian forces swiftly neutralising the drone threats and delivering a strong retaliatory response to ceasefire violations.

The recent escalation is being viewed as Pakistan’s attempted response to India’s Operation Sindoor, in which the Armed Forces struck nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday. The operation was carried out in retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.

Reaffirming its stance, the Indian Army stated, “Indian Army remains committed to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nation. All nefarious designs will be responded with force.”
