Ranchi Press Club, RBS Vedic Trust announce Jharkhand Journalism Awards 2024

Ranchi, Dec 29: Senior journalist and former Information Commissioner Baijnath Mishra highlighted the selfless dedication of journalists, comparing their contribution to society with the legendary act of Dadhichi, who sacrificed his bones to protect his kingdom. Mishra emphasised that honouring journalists is akin to honouring society itself. He made these remarks on Sunday during the Jharkhand Journalism Awards 2024 announcement at the Ranchi Press Club.

Mishra noted that this is the first time since the formation of Jharkhand that the Ranchi Press Club, in collaboration with the RBS Vedic Trust, has initiated the Jharkhand Journalism Awards. He commended the effort, calling it a significant and praiseworthy step.

Ranchi Press Club President Surendra Soren announced that awards will be given in three categories:

  1. Lifetime Achievement Award – Rs. 31,000, a shawl, and a memento.
  2. Best Reporter Award – Rs. 21,000, a shawl, and a memento.
  3. Best Photography Award – Rs. 21,000, a shawl, and a memento.

Retired IAS officer and jury member Ranendra Kumar assured that the selection process would be transparently conducted. Meanwhile, RBS Vedic Trust President Nityanand Shukla expressed his happiness in participating in this initiative to honour the work of journalists.

Ranchi Press Club Secretary Amarkant provided details regarding nominations, which can be submitted to the Ranchi Press Club until January 15, 2025. Separate applications are required for each category. Application forms are available on the Ranchi Press Club website or can be collected directly from the club. Completed applications, along with the necessary documents, must be submitted by the January 15 deadline.

Nityanand Shukla also shared that a seven-member jury would evaluate the nominations and make the final selections. The jury comprises:

  • Senior journalists Baijnath Mishra and Sonali Das,
  • Ranchi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Sinha,
  • Retired IAS officer Ranendra Kumar,
  • Ranchi Press Club President Surendra Soren,
  • General Secretary Amarkant, and
  • RBS Vedic Trust President Nityanand Shukla.

The awards aim to recognize and celebrate excellence in journalism, marking a significant milestone for the media community in Jharkhand.
