Ranchi University’s Role in Promoting Talent

Recognizing Ranchi University’s contribution, the Governor noted its efforts to balance academic excellence with sports and cultural activities.

Notable Achievements of Ranchi University

Governor Gangwar acknowledged the university’s remarkable achievements in sports, highlighting its second-place ranking at the national level in yoga. He also applauded the contributions of Salima Tete, Nikki Pradhan, and Sangeeta Kumari—renowned women’s hockey players from Jharkhand.

“Salima Tete, the captain of the Indian women’s hockey team, was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2024. Nikki Pradhan was the first female hockey player from Jharkhand to represent India in the Olympics. These daughters of Jharkhand are the pride of our nation and a source of inspiration for young athletes,” he said.

The Governor also praised Ranchi University’s women’s hockey team for securing the runner-up position in the East Zone Inter-University Tournament.

Promoting Cultural Heritage

Alongside sports, Governor Gangwar emphasized the importance of preserving Jharkhand’s cultural heritage. He highlighted the efforts of the university’s Department of Tribal and Regional Languages, which has gained national and international recognition.

“Cultural activities connect us with our history and traditions. Ranchi University’s commitment to preserving tribal and regional languages is a great contribution to our rich heritage,” he remarked.

National Support for Sports and Culture

Governor Gangwar also praised the central government’s initiatives in promoting sports and culture under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Programs like Khelo India are encouraging young athletes by providing necessary resources and opportunities. Similarly, initiatives like Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav are strengthening our country’s cultural diversity,” he noted.

A Vision for the Future

Concluding his speech, Governor Gangwar encouraged students to continue excelling in sports and culture while upholding Jharkhand’s traditions.

“Sports and culture hold a special place in Jharkhand. We must continue striving to nurture our talents and preserve our cultural heritage. Through these efforts, we can build a strong, proud, and developed India,” he said.
