Jamshedpur, July 17: The grandeur of the Rath Yatra of Sri Jagannath was witnessed also in Chicago, USA, giving a moment of spiritual joy and togetherness among the Indian diaspora.

Aboard with Lord Jagannath and his siblings Devi Subhadra and Sri Balbhadra in a decorated chariot, the Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra were celebrated with traditional gaiety on July 7 and July 15 respectively.

As the chariot started rolling on a street in Chicago from a make-shift Sri Jagannath temple there, the serene atmosphere was filled with chantings like “Jai Jagannath” and “Prabhu Jagannath.”

The Rath Yatra was celebrated in the traditional way like it is carried out in Odisha and other parts of our country in devotion to Sri Jagannath.

While a section of participants, including ladies danced to the tune of Odiya bhajan and blew conch, the others took delight in pulling rope tied to the holy chariot.

Though Chicago is thousands of miles away from Puri- the home place of Lord Jagannath, those who participated in the entire celebration seemed like they were in Puri itself.

Although the Rath Yatra was organised in Chicago by the Oriyas living there, a considerable number of people belonging to other Indian communities participated in the celebration.
