Root cause of Microsoft cloud services outage identified but residual effects persist

New Delhi, July 19: Microsoft stated on Thursday that it is looking into issues with its cloud services in the Central US region, which have caused disruptions to services globally.

Microsoft reported that while the root cause of the outage affecting its 365 apps and services has been resolved, but some customers are still experiencing residual effects from the cybersecurity disruptions.

Antivirus firm CrowdStrike’s CEO George Kurtz blamed a defective content update for the global IT outage, apologized for the disruptions, and assured that the problem has been resolved.

“That update had a software bug in it and caused an issue with the Microsoft operating system. We identified this very quickly and remediated the issue,” he said.

CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity service that protects major global companies from internet breaches and hacks.

Flights, banking, stock exchange, broadcasting affected

Due to a technical issue in Microsoft Corp’s cloud services, flights worldwide, including in India, were affected on Friday. Some flights had to be cancelled, while others were delayed.

Apart from this, banking services, broadcasting, stock exchanges, payment systems and emergency services were also hit and faced massive disruptions.

Computers and laptops stopped working in many companies

A technical glitch was observed in Microsoft at around 12 noon on Friday. Its effect was seen in many big companies. In these companies, at around 12 noon, the laptops and computers of many employees shut down automatically.

This glitch was seen continuously for a long time. Meanwhile, the employee’s computer and laptop restarted several times, but after some time it shut down again. This glitch in Microsoft has been seen in many well-known companies around the world.

Many Microsoft services stopped working

It is reported that the issues at Microsoft have impacted almost all of the company’s services. Users are experiencing difficulties with Microsoft 360, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Store, and Microsoft cloud-powered services.

The outage detection platform Down Detector has also confirmed the worldwide outage. There are over 900 reports of issues with Microsoft 365.

Regarding the issue Microsoft earlier said, “We are aware of the issue and have engaged multiple teams to resolve it. We have identified the cause.”
