Jamshedpur, Sept 4: Close on the heels of an armed robbery in Sonari, SUV-borne criminals looted Rs 30 lakhs from a businessman near Gurudwara bustee under Bistupur thana area on Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place as the victim, Saket Agrawal, was on his way to a bank from his house in Bistupur for depositing the money.

Agarwal was on a Scooty and the cash was in a bag tucked at a hook in the two-wheeler. As he took a turn near the Bistupur Gurudwara, which is comparatively a secluded area, a gang of four criminals intercepted his two-wheeler and threw chilli powder in his eye.

The criminals had subsequently grabbed the bag that contained the cash and fled the scene boarding the SUV.

Despite being in pain, the victim had tried to resist the gang for not letting him go with the bag, but one of the gang members had fired in the air, terrorising him

Agarwal had then informed the Bistupur police, leading a police party to rush to the spot immediately.

City SP Kumar Shuvashis had also reached the spot and inspected the crime scene.

“We got the information about the loot at around 1.00 pm and reached the spot in a few minutes. The victim was going to a bank to deposit money when four criminals committed the robbery. We are collecting the CCTV footage and are hopeful of detecting the case soon,” said Shuvashis while talking to the newsmen.

On being asked, the City SP said it has to be verified whether the Rs 30 lakhs as claimed by the victim was in the bag. He did not confirm the blank fire either.

“Investigation is on. We are doing our best to crack the case,” the senior police officer pointed out.

It may be mentioned here that a gang of six criminals had on Tuesday afternoon decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs of rupees from a jewellery shop in Sonari. The police are yet to make any headway in the case.

Significantly, replying to a question about the back-to-back robbery and loot in the city, the City SP said that in the past 11 months, no incident of loot or robbery from the businessmen had taken place.
