S.B.K. Singh appointed Delhi Police Commissioner

New Delhi, July 31: Senior IPS officer S.B.K. Singh has been appointed as the new head of the Delhi Police, succeeding Sanjay Arora, who retired from service today, July 31.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved this key appointment, and Singh will assume charge from August 1.

An IPS officer of the 1988 batch, S.B.K. Singh previously served as the Director General of Delhi Home Guards. He has now been given additional charge as the Delhi Police Commissioner.

A farewell ceremony was organized Thursday morning at the New Police Lines Parade Ground to honor outgoing Commissioner Sanjay Arora. The event featured a formal parade and the symbolic handover of responsibility.

Sanjay Arora, also a 1988-batch officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, had taken over as Delhi Police Chief on August 1, 2022, replacing Rakesh Asthana. During his career, he held several key positions in Tamil Nadu, ITBP, and other central armed forces.

A notification issued by the Delhi government in June 2025 had confirmed that Arora would retire on July 31, 2025.
