SA20 announces pre-signed, retained, wildcard players before Season 4 auction

Johannesburg, July 23: The stage is set for a high-stakes SA20 Season 4 auction, scheduled for September 9 in Johannesburg, with 84 player slots available and a combined spending cap of USD 7.4 million across six franchises.

After finalizing their pre-signed, retained, and wildcard picks, teams will now compete for some of the biggest names in world cricket.

Owned by Indian Premier League franchises, the SA20 League features six teams, namely, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Pretoria Capitals, Durban’s Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town.

As per SA20 regulations, each franchise was allowed to retain or pre-sign up to six players during the retention window, which closed on July 18.

This could include a maximum of three South African players and three overseas stars. In addition, each team has already exercised its option to sign a wildcard—a player who either featured in the previous season or is an overseas recruit.

The auction pool features several marquee South African cricketers, including Test Championship finalists Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, Wiaan Mulder, and Keshav Maharaj. Exciting prospects such as Dewald Brevis and teenage pacer Kwena Maphaka will also be available, alongside T20 stalwarts like Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, and Tabraiz Shamsi.

  • Durban’s Super Giants (USD 1.6M left): *Sunil Narine, *Noor Ahmad, *Jos Buttler, Heinrich Klaasen (wildcard)
  • Joburg Super Kings (USD 1.2M): Faf du Plessis, *James Vince, *Akeal Hosein, *Richard Gleeson, Donovan Ferreira (wildcard)
  • MI Cape Town (USD 654K): Ryan Rickelton, George Linde, Corbin Bosch, *Rashid Khan, *Trent Boult, *Nicholas Pooran, Kagiso Rabada (wildcard)
  • Paarl Royals (USD 825K): Lhuan-dre Pretorius, David Miller, Bjorn Fortuin, *Mujeeb Ur Rahman, *Sikandar Raza, Rubin Hermann (wildcard)
  • Pretoria Capitals (USD 1.8M): *Will Jacks, *Sherfane Rutherford, *Andre Russell (wildcard)
  • Sunrisers Eastern Cape (USD 1.2M): Tristan Stubbs, *Allah Ghazanfar, *Adam Milne, *Jonny Bairstow, Marco Jansen (wildcard)

With top-tier local talent and global T20 stars up for grabs, the upcoming auction promises to be one of the most competitive in SA20 history.
