Mumbai, Jan 24: A Mumbai court on Friday granted an extension of police custody until January 29 for the Bangladeshi man accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan during a robbery attempt at his home.

The accused, 30-year-old Shareeful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, was presented before the Bandra Magistrate Court after his initial remand ended.
The police requested an additional seven days of custody to continue their investigation into key aspects of the case, and the court granted their plea.

The suspect, arrested in Thane city, had reportedly entered India illegally last year and assumed the name Vijay Das.

Saif was attacked inside his upscale Bandra apartment early on January 16 by the intruder, who repeatedly stabbed him with a knife.
Following the assault, Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital where he underwent two surgeries to treat stab wounds, including one on his neck and near his spine. The actor was discharged on January 21.
