Lucknow, Oct 9: The Samajwadi Party (SP) announced its candidates for six out of ten assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, where by-polls are scheduled to take place later this year.

The party has nominated Tej Pratap Yadav for the Karhal seat, while Naseem Solanki will contest from the Sisamau seat. Mustafa Siddiqui has been given the ticket for Phulpur (Prayagraj), and Ajit Prasad will run from Milkipur (Ayodhya), according to the list released.

The party has also allocated tickets to Shobhawai Verma for the Katehari seat and to Jyodi Bind for the Majhwan seat, as stated in the list.

By-elections will take place in 10 assembly seats across the state, including Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar), Karhal (Mainpuri), Milkipur (Ayodhya), Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), Ghaziabad, Majhawan (Mirzapur), Sisamau (Kanpur city), Khair (Aligarh), Phulpur (Prayagraj), and Kundarki (Moradabad).

Nine of these seats, excluding Sisamau, became vacant after their MLAs were elected as MPs in the Lok Sabha polls. The by-poll in Sisamau is being conducted because SP MLA Irfan Solanki was disqualified following a criminal conviction.

The SP, part of the INDIA bloc, has stated it will join forces with the Congress in the bypolls, with the Congress seeking five seats from the party.
