New Delhi, Dec 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted virtually with youth participants of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav, emphasising the role of sports in shaping discipline, teamwork, and leadership among the nation’s youth. He highlighted the festival as a people’s movement that engages young athletes from cities and villages across India.

Modi urged Members of Parliament to actively identify and nurture sporting talent in their constituencies, providing guidance and support to help athletes shine at national and international platforms, including the Olympics.

He noted that the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030 and the possibility of India hosting the 2036 Olympics present significant opportunities for today’s young athletes.

The Prime Minister praised the youth for setting new milestones in various sporting events and highlighted the inclusive nature of the Mahotsav, where differently-abled athletes also participate.

He stressed that the sports ecosystem in India now allows even children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to reach the highest levels.

Modi further underscored that athletes play not only for personal victory but also for the honour of the nation. He called on parents to encourage their children to participate in sports, describing it as essential for both physical fitness and mental development.
