Jamshedpur, Dec 25: A daylight mobile snatching incident near Gate No. 1 of Jubilee Park under the Sakchi police station area created panic on Thursday.

According to sources, a young woman was having tea by the roadside when a youth suddenly approached from behind, snatched her mobile phone, and attempted to flee.

Alerted by the victim’s screams, local residents reacted swiftly, chased the accused, and managed to overpower him a short distance away.

In the heat of the moment, the crowd reportedly thrashed the accused before handing him over to the police.

On receiving information, police rushed to the spot, rescued the accused from the crowd, and took him into custody for interrogation.

Police officials said efforts are underway to ascertain whether the accused was acting alone or was part of an organised gang.

The incident has raised serious questions about public safety, as Jubilee Park is located close to the district headquarters.

The occurrence of such a crime in broad daylight has exposed lapses in security arrangements.

Local residents alleged that police patrolling in and around the park is extremely weak, emboldening anti-social elements.

Many claimed that suspicious activities increase during the evening hours, while police presence remains minimal.

Notably, just two days ago, thieves reportedly targeted nearly a dozen shops in the same area, adding to public anxiety.

Repeated criminal incidents have triggered anger among residents, who believe that stronger surveillance and regular patrolling could have prevented such crimes.

Police have assured that patrolling will be intensified and strict action will be taken against suspects to restore a sense of safety and security in the area.
