New Delhi, March 20: Ankit Tiwari, an ED official who was arrested in December 2023 by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in connection with a bribery case, was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan’s bench granted interim bail to the accused Ankit Tiwari.
Ankit Tiwari was nevertheless subject to a number of restrictions by the court, including refraining from influencing witnesses, tampering with evidence, and leaving Tamil Nadu without authorization.
The Supreme Court has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to submit a response to Ankit Tiwari’s petition.

Tiwari has appealed against the Madras High Court’s decision to reject his bail application in the case.
ED seeks transfer of case to CBI
The Supreme Court is currently addressing both Ankit Tiwari’s bail request and the Enforcement Directorate’s plea to transfer the investigation of bribery accusations against Tiwari to the CBI from Tamil Nadu’s DVAC.
Caught while accepting Rs 20 lakh bribe
In December last year, the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption detained Tiwari, alleging that he was caught in the act while accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from a doctor in the Dindigul district.
Tamil Nadu officials have claimed that Ankit Tiwari, along with his team of ED officers, had been intimidating numerous individuals and accepting bribes under the guise of resolving their cases with the Enforcement Directorate.
