Raipur, April 29: In the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, a Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces on Monday morning.
According to Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran G. Chavan, the gunfight occurred in a forest under the Kistaram police station area while separate teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of the CRPF, were out on an anti-Naxal operation.
He mentioned that the gunfire erupted between Naxal insurgents and the DRG team in the forest, approximately 450 kilometres away from the state capital Raipur.

The SP stated that a search was still going on in the area and that after the shooting ended, a Naxalite’s body and a weapon were found there.
According to the police, this latest incident brings the total number of Naxalite casualties to 81 this year in various encounters across the Bastar region, which includes seven districts including Sukma.
