Dhanbad, Dec 13: The Jharkhand girls team posted its second consecutive victory today in the 67th School Games Federation of India (SGFI) under-19 girls badminton championship being played at indoor Stadium Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

The report reaching here said in the second match Jharkhand girls’ team today outclassed Lakshadweep 2-0. In the first singles match Jharkhand’s Shruti defeated her Lakshadweep rival 15-02, 15-07 to give the state a 1-0 lead. In the doubles match, Shruti paired with Anamika Ghosh and beat their rival players 15-03, 15-04.

Earlier on Tuesday, in the first match, the Jharkhand girls’ team defeated the CBSE Delhi team 2-1.

However, the boys’ under-19 team of Jharkhand had to face defeat today at the hands of Uttar Pradesh. Sajan Kumar playing first singles gave the team 1-0 lead by beating his opponent 12-15, 15- 11. 15- 10, but in a doubles match Jharkhand’s pair of  Ankit Gope and Abu Riyan lost to their opponent pair 9-15, 10-15. In the decider singles match, Swapnil Nayak lost 6-15, 7-15.

Jharkhand under-17 badminton teams leave for Gujarat

Jharkhand under-17 boys’ and girls’ teams today left for Vadodara (Gujarat) to participate in the 67th School Games Federation of India (SGFI) national championship scheduled to be held from December  17 to 19.
Coach of the under-17  teams Ravi Kesri said that players had laboured hard in the 20-day camp held at Khelgaon Ranchi and look confident to do well in Gujarat.

Players of the teams are (boys)– Ashu Gopal (Ranchi), Dipak Mahto (Ranchi), Sachin Gope (Gumla)  Mohit Raj (Ranchi), Jimmy Jerald Ekka (Ranchi).

Girls team- Nandita Sen (Ranchi), Holy Sakshi Roba (Hazaribag), Aastika Singh (Gumla) and Jasinta Bilung  (Gumla).  Coach is Ravi Keshri and manager Bina Lakra.
