PINAKI MAJUMDAR
Jamshedpur, Feb 13: In a significant breakthrough, Jharkhand Police have arrested the alleged main shooter and a key conspirator in the Vijay Tirkey murder case from Mumbai, officials said on Friday.
Vijay Tirkey (35), who reportedly had criminal antecedents, was shot dead on the evening of Wednesday, December 24, 2025. The incident took place at a weekly market (haat) in Chilgu under the Chandil police station area of the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district. He was attacked while watching a cockfighting event, sending shockwaves through the local community.
SIT formed after murder
Police sources said the murder was carried out in a calculated and premeditated manner. Soon after the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to crack the case.

Through sustained technical surveillance, analysis of call records, and intelligence inputs, investigators traced the prime accused to Mumbai, where they had allegedly gone into hiding to evade arrest.
Accused to be brought on transit remand
Acting on specific inputs, a police team launched a coordinated inter-state operation and apprehended the suspected main shooter along with the alleged conspirator. The accused are being brought back to Jharkhand on transit remand for detailed interrogation.
Preliminary findings suggest the involvement of a broader criminal conspiracy, with logistical arrangements allegedly made in advance. Investigators indicated that further arrests are likely as the probe continues to uncover additional links and possible accomplices.
Senior officers reiterated that those involved in organised crime would be pursued relentlessly, regardless of where they attempt to hide. The arrests are being seen as a major success for the district police in a case that had drawn considerable public attention.
