New Delhi, March 23: In the national capital on Saturday, nine former MLAs from Himachal Pradesh, which included six disqualified Congress legislators and three Independents who had resigned, officially joined the BJP.

In the presence of the former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur, union minister Anurag Thakur, national general secretary Arun Singh, and Himachal Pradesh BJP president Rajeev Bindal, they joined the BJP.

The disqualified former Congress MLAs who joined the BJP include Sudhir Sharma, Ravi Thakur, Rajinder Rana, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Chetanya Sharma, and Devinder Kumar Bhutto. They were disqualified on February 29 for disobeying a party instruction to attend the Assembly session and support the state government during a cut motion and budget vote.

The three elected Independents, Ashish Sharma, Hoshiyar Singh and KL Thakur, who resigned on Friday, also became members of the BJP.

The former legislators attacked the state’s Congress administration, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, claiming that since taking office, development efforts had stagnated.

Anurag Thakur welcomed the former legislators into the party and stated that their presence would bolster the BJP. He also accused the state’s Congress government of not keeping its word, which has infuriated the public on many fronts.

Anurag Thakur mentioned that six of the former legislators, despite their affiliation with the Congress, sided with the BJP in the recent Rajya Sabha election to represent the public anger towards the Sukhu government.
