Jamshedpur, Sept 23: Panic gripped passengers on the Buxar-Tata Superfast Express on Monday when smoke and flames erupted in the third coach near Kalajharia village, between Vidyasagar and Jamtara stations.

Fortunately, prompt action by the train crew prevented a major accident.

According to sources, the fire broke out in the undercarriage due to a brake binding, sending smoke and sparks into the coach.

Seeing the situation worsen, the loco pilot immediately stopped the train. Railway staff quickly controlled the fire using fire extinguishers.

The train remained halted for approximately 45 minutes.

Several passengers, startled by the smoke, jumped from the train, raising concerns about injuries.

The approaching train on the adjacent track posed an additional risk, but timely warnings ensured no serious harm.

Railway officials confirmed that no passengers were seriously injured and there was no loss of life or property.

After the fire was completely controlled, the train resumed its journey towards Tatanagar.

An official investigation has been initiated, and measures are being taken to ensure passenger safety.
