Ranchi, July 7: The festival of Muharram was observed peacefully across various districts of Jharkhand. However, incidents of clashes and disputes were reported in a few areas.

In Palamu, Godda, Hazaribagh, and Sahibganj, tensions arose when two groups confronted each other during Muharram processions. Meanwhile, in Giridih, a Palestinian flag was waved during one of the processions.

Clashes Over Procession Route in Palamu

In Palamu district’s Pahley village under Patan police station, a dispute over the Muharram procession route escalated into a violent clash. Both sides resorted to stone-pelting and even sword-wielding. Two individuals were injured during the confrontation.

Tension and Injuries in Godda During Processions

In Godda district, tensions flared in two separate areas—Thakurgangti and Meherma police station limits—during Muharram processions. Disputes over the procession route and local competitions led to altercations and stone-pelting.

Six people were injured, with four reportedly in serious condition. The severely injured were referred to Godda Sadar Hospital after initial treatment.

A heavy police presence was deployed to manage the situation, and flag marches were conducted to maintain order.

Palestinian Flag Displayed During Procession in Giridih

A controversial incident was reported in Giridih district’s Chandauri village under Tisri police station area, where the Palestinian national flag was allegedly waved during a Tazia procession.

A video of the event has gone viral on social media, showing the Palestinian flag alongside the Indian national flag and Islamic banners.

Procession Blocked in Hazaribagh’s Keredari Area

In Belatu village under Hazaribagh’s Keredari police station, tensions rose when one group prevented a religious procession headed to Rani Talab Karbala. The obstruction reportedly stemmed from an earlier dispute over placing a flag in the Bazar Tanda area.

The protesting group insisted the flag be removed before allowing the procession to continue. Senior officials reached the spot to defuse the situation and persuade the people involved.

Road Blocked in Sahibganj After Dispute With Police

In Sahibganj district’s Maharajpur Motijharna area of Taljhari, a confrontation erupted between Muharram committee members and the local police station in-charge during an Akhara procession.

Villagers alleged misbehavior by the officer towards women and elderly residents. In protest, locals blocked NH-80 and demanded the officer’s removal and justice.

DSP Rupak Kumar reached the spot and engaged with the protesters. After two hours of negotiation, the roadblock was lifted.
