New Delhi, Jan 11: Indore and Surat secured the top positions respectively as the ‘cleanest cities’ in India, with Navi Mumbai maintaining its third-place ranking in the annual cleanliness survey conducted by the Central government, as per the announced results on Thursday.

For the seventh consecutive year, Indore has won the title of cleanest city.

At a function held here, President Droupadi Murmu presented ‘Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023’ to the winners. The occasion was attended by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, among others.

Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Mohan Yadav received the award from President of India Droupadi Murmu on Thursday at the Swachh Survekshan Award 2023 ceremony in New Delhi.

“Our Indore is on the seventh heaven of cleanliness. The people of Indore have once again proved that cleanliness has not only become their habit, but also the cleanliness is in their thinking now. On this biggest achievement of cleanliness, I congratulate all the people of the state and the entire team engaged in cleanliness work. I appeal that your passion for cleanliness should never diminish,” the MP CM Mohan Yadav stated.

Maharashtra won first place in the ‘best-performing states’ category of the ‘Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023’, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

The survey outcomes revealed that Sasvad in Maharashtra received the cleanest city award among all cities with a population of less than 1 lakh. In this category, Patan in Chhattisgarh and Lonavala in Maharashtra came in second and third, respectively.

Varanasi has been recognized as the best and cleanest Ganga town, with Prayagraj securing the second position.

In the category of cleanest cantonment boards, the Mhow Cantonment Board located in Madhya Pradesh holds the top ranking.

As per the data, 4,447 urban local bodies took part in the Swachh Survekshan 2023, and there were 12 crore citizen responses. The government asserts that this is the largest cleanliness survey in the world.
