Tata Motors announces week-long shutdown at Jamshedpur plant

Jamshedpur, May 28: Tata Motors has announced a week-long shutdown at its Jamshedpur manufacturing plant from May 29 to June 4, citing current business requirements and market conditions.

The temporary suspension of operations will cover all departments, divisions and general offices at the plant. The move is part of a combined arrangement involving compensatory offs, a scheduled block closure and the routine weekly holiday, according to official circulars issued by the company on Wednesday.

Compensatory leave announced for employees

Under the first circular, employees will receive compensatory leave for duties performed on earlier Sundays.

May 29 has been declared a holiday against work done on March 15, while May 30 corresponds to duties performed on March 29. June 1 has been marked as compensatory leave for employees who worked on April 19.

May 31 will remain the regular weekly off day.

The company clarified that the Foundry Division will continue functioning on May 29 and May 30, as the compensatory leave arrangement does not apply to that unit.

Employees assigned duties during the off period have been instructed to avail their compensatory leave within the prescribed deadlines.

Block closure from June 2 to June 4

In a separate notification, Tata Motors declared a block closure from June 2 to June 4 under provisions of the wage agreement signed between the management and the union on March 19.

As part of the arrangement, employees will have to adjust half of the closure period against their Privilege Leave (PL) or Casual Leave (CL), while the company will pay wages for the remaining days.

Industry observers believe the move is aimed at aligning production schedules with current demand trends and inventory management requirements.

“The temporary shutdown is in line with current business requirements and market conditions,” the company said in its official communication.
