Jamshedpur, April 25: Tata Steel has been awarded the prestigious National Intellectual Property Award by the Indian Patent Office in the category of ‘Top Public/Private Company for Patents Filing, Grant & Commercialization in India’.

In addition, the company earned international recognition with the World Intellectual Property Award from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) under its WIPO Awards Program.

Tata Steel has filed more than 2,000 patent applications worldwide, emphasizing its focus on innovation and intellectual property.

In FY24 alone, the company filed 142 patents and secured 395 grants. From FY20 to FY24, it averaged over 130 patent filings per year, underlining its strong focus on research, development, and collaborative innovation.
Subodh Pandey, Vice President – Technology, R&D, NMB and Graphene at Tata Steel, remarked, “The steel industry today presents vast opportunities to gain a competitive edge through R&D and partnerships with leading academic institutions. With a legacy of innovation dating back to 1937, when Tata Steel established one of India’s oldest R&D centres and filed its first patent in 1938, the company’s IP portfolio continues to grow. Recently, its patents were featured in a compendium by the Indian Patent Office highlighting innovations aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
