Jamshedpur, Sept 11: Tatanagar Railway Civil Defence Inspector Santosh Kumar has been conferred with the prestigious National Medal and Citation by the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, for his exemplary service in disaster management and community safety.

The felicitation ceremony, organised under the Railway Board in association with the Ministry of Home Affairs, was held at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi.

The honour was presented by Ajit Kumar Jha, Executive Director, Railway Board, in the presence of senior officials.

Notably, Kumar was the only awardee from South Eastern Railway at the national level this year.

A seasoned professional, Santosh Kumar has consistently demonstrated leadership in mock drills, emergency preparedness, volunteer mobilisation, and public awareness campaigns across the Chakradharpur Division and other railway zones.

His initiatives have not only strengthened railway safety but also extended to voter awareness drives, health centre collaborations with the Jharkhand government, and large-scale community training programmes.

Among his major contributions was Operation Sindoor, where he trained nearly 18,000 citizens in civil defence during air raid drills. He also played a key role in equipping 10,000 loco pilots with disaster response training at the Electric Loco Pilot Training Centre, Tatanagar.

This latest national recognition not only crowns his years of tireless service but also stands as an inspiration for railway employees and civil defence personnel across the country.
