Research Insights and Detection Techniques

Sharing insights from his research, Dr. Tarafdar introduced a plastic-degrading bacterium, Bacillus siamensis ATKU1, capable of breaking down low-density polyethylene (LDPE). He also discussed a dye-based detection technique his team developed for identifying microplastics in soil and food samples.

Significantly, Dr. Tarafdar revealed the presence of microplastics in intravenous (IV) fluid systems, raising new biomedical safety concerns. This finding underscores the urgent need for stricter monitoring and innovative solutions in healthcare systems.
