PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, May 21: The Ranchi weather office has issued a series of alerts indicating widespread thunderstorm activity accompanied by gusty winds over various parts of the state from May 21 to May 24.

Forecast Highlights

May 21: Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds reaching 50-60 Kmph are likely at isolated locations across the state, excluding southern regions, where wind speeds may be slightly lower (40-50 kmph). Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated spots in the northeastern parts of the state.

May 22: The entire state is likely to experience thunderstorms with gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph at isolated places.

May 23–24: Thunderstorm activity will continue, with gusty winds ranging from 40-50 kmph expected over most parts of the state, except the northeastern region, where slightly milder winds (30-40 kmph) are anticipated.

Active East-West Trough

The current weather disturbances are attributed to an east-west trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan to north Bangladesh.

This trough spans through north Rajasthan, south Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal at an altitude of 1.5 Km above mean sea level.

Residents are advised to stay updated with local forecasts and take necessary precautions against potential hazards, especially in regions forecasted to receive heavy rainfall and high wind gusts.
