PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Sept 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated places across Jharkhand over the next few days, as a fresh low-pressure system is likely to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal around September 2.

According to the IMD bulletin, the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends through Bikaner, Ajmer, Guna, Damoh, Raipur, and Puri, before stretching southeastward into the central Bay of Bengal. The trough extends up to 0.9 km, with embedded cyclonic circulations over southwest Madhya Pradesh and northwest Rajasthan.

Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the West Bengal–Odisha coasts, between 1.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestward with height.

Rainfall Status in Jharkhand

Monsoon activity remained weak across Jharkhand during the past 24 hours. Very light to light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was recorded at isolated places.

The highest rainfall of 13.8 mm was reported from Panchet Dam.

Advisory for Public

The weather office has warned that thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph), may occur at isolated places. Residents, especially farmers and those working in open areas, have been advised to take precautions.

Broader Monsoon Outlook

With the upcoming low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, rainfall activity is expected to increase from September 2 onwards, potentially bringing widespread showers across eastern India, including Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal.
