Jamshedpur, Dec 28: A traffic constable was seriously injured after being hit by a speeding Scooty during a helmet-checking drive in Sonari on Saturday evening.
The mishap occurred when the traffic cop suddenly stepped in front of the Scooty, which was being ridden by a teenager without a helmet.
Interestingly, the traffic constable had been hiding behind a tree along the road and sprang into action to intercept the Scooty rider, employing a tactic akin to guerrilla warfare.

The teenage rider fell off the Scooty but fortunately escaped with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the traffic constable, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, lay on the road in agony, with one of his legs appearing to have sustained multiple injuries. He was immediately rescued by fellow officers and rushed to Tata Main Hospital in a car.
The incident took place near Sai Temple on Sonari-Bistupur Road, under the Bistupur police station area.
By the time the injured constable was transported to the hospital, senior traffic police officers had arrived at the scene. They informed the teenager’s parents, while the helmet-checking spot had become crowded with onlookers.
One passerby was overheard commenting that while the police in Jamshedpur may be perceived as sluggish in handling crime, they are notably diligent when it comes to enforcing helmet-checking drives.
“Some traffic cops go beyond their regular duties and even act like commandos,” remarked another passerby, speaking to The Jharkhand Story.
