Jamshedpur, Jan 10:  A total of 27 aspirants from Jharkhand got lucrative job offers from companies during a placement drive organised by the Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) at West Bokaro Division.

The placement drive organised last month witnessed job offers from companies like MRF Tyres and Schneider.

Altogether 50 candidates participated out of which 27 candidates were shortlisted for the jobs.

Six candidates were placed at MRF Tyres, Bharuch (Gujarat), 16 at Chennai (Tamil Nadu); and five girls were placed at Schneider, Hyderabad (Telangana).

Addressing Unemployment Through Annual Placement Drives

To address the growing challenges of unemployment, every year the Foundation organises placement drives in collaboration with the Model Career Centre (MCC), Jamshedpur, targeting candidates aged between 18 to 35 from underserved areas and last mile communities, with a minimum eligibility criterion of having completed class 10 and in some cases a postgraduate degree.

In FY24, six placement drives were conducted across various panchayats, with 763 candidates attending career counselling sessions, including 274 females.

Out of these, 416 candidates appeared for interviews, resulting in 85 successful placements at reputable companies like Wistron Electronics, MRF Tyres, Schneider, and MAT Foundry, across India.

Impact of Pre-Placement Counselling

During the initial years of placement drives, it was observed that many candidates turned down the offers due to locational issues, fear of migrating to bigger cities or financial constraints.

The introduction of pre-placement career counselling sessions has been an important turning point in populating the scope of the placement drive initiative.

These sessions help candidates understand industry expectations and the facilities offered by companies, moderated through virtual briefings by human resource personnel. This structured approach has significantly improved youth participation and motivation to work outside their hometowns.

For young girls and boys, these opportunities serve as a platform to kickstart their professional pathways.

One of the successful candidate, 22-year-old Babita Kumari said, “I am grateful for the job opportunities right after my studies. Working alongside girls from neighbouring villages in a supportive environment has given me stability and purpose. This opportunity has truly transformed my life.”
