Jamshedpur, April 18: Two children were killed, and three others, including an elderly man, were seriously injured as an under-constructed wall fell on them at a village under Kumardungi thana area in West Singhbhum late on Wednesday night.

Two children and an elderly man who were seriously injured have been admitted to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital.

Incident happened at Andhari village

The tragedy occurred at Pandusai tola in Andhari village under Kumardungi thana area at about 9.30 pm when the four children and the elderly man identified as Devanand Pan were sleeping in the courtyard of the house.

As the wall collapsed, causing the five, including Devanand Pan, to be pressed under the rubble, Devanand somehow managed to get out of the debris.

4 children rescued

Soon after, Devanand and his wife rescued the four children and rushed them to a government primary health centre, where one of the children, identified as Shiva Pan (6), was declared dead.

Given the extremely serious condition of another child, the family members shifted him to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital, where the doctors on emergency duty declared the child, identified as Munna Pan (8) as brought dead.

According to sources, when the two children were rescued, blood was oozing out of their mouths profusely. Later, it was learned that the bones of both the children, including the legs, hands and ribs, were ruptured.

According to family members, on Wednesday, it was too hot, and the children had fallen asleep in the courtyard after finishing dinner.
