Lucknow, Dec 24: In Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar, seven criminals robbed the Indian Overseas Bank on December 22, stealing valuables worth crores, including jewelry, before fleeing.
Within 48 hours, the police neutralized two of the criminals in encounters—one in Ghazipur and the other in Lucknow. The two criminals were identified as Sunny Dayal and Sobind Kumar, both of whom had a bounty of ₹25,000 on their heads.
Three accused have been arrested, while two others remain at large, with the police actively searching for them. Eight separate teams have been formed to investigate the case.
Police eliminate two criminals during checking drive
According to reports, a vehicle checking campaign was underway at Bara Chowki. During this, the chowki in-charge tried to stop two suspicious individuals on a motorcycle, but they attempted to flee.
This led to an encounter with the police, during which one of the criminals, Sunny Dayal, was shot, while the other escaped under the cover of darkness. Sunny Dayal was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The second criminal, Sobind Kumar, was neutralized in an encounter on Monday night when the police attempted to stop a Swift car. One of the occupants opened fire on the police, prompting retaliatory fire. The injured criminal was taken to the hospital, but he also died during treatment.
Thieves cut through wall to access bank lockers
On Sunday, December 22, seven thieves broke into Lucknow’s Chinhat branch of Indian Overseas Bank and escaped with jewellery and valuables worth crores. The thieves spent two hours inside the bank, with four executing the robbery while three kept watch outside.
They accessed the bank by cutting through a wall from the side of an empty plot near the bank, creating a passage to the lockers. Using an electric cutter, they broke into 42 lockers and fled with jewelry and important documents worth crores.
The incident came to light when a shopkeeper noticed the broken wall near the plot and informed the police. Upon inspection, the police found that out of 90 lockers, 42 had been broken into. The investigation was subsequently initiated.
