Lucknow, Oct 17: The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major Diwali gift for lakhs of state employees and pensioners. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday declared a 3% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for more than 2.8 million employees and pensioners.

With this increase, DA and DR rates will rise from 55% to 58% effective July 1, 2025. CM Yogi described the decision as one that will bring “contentment, security, and prosperity” to the lives of employees and pensioners.

In a post on social media platform X, he wrote, “The Government of Uttar Pradesh has increased the rate of dearness allowance and dearness relief for state employees and pensioners/family pensioners from 55% to 58% effective from 01 July, 2025. On the occasion of the great festival of Deepavali, this decision will serve as a catalyst for improving the standard of living while lighting the lamp of satisfaction, security, and prosperity in the lives of approximately 28 lakh dedicated workers and pensioners. Congratulations to all!”
The government has directed that the increased DA and DR will be disbursed in cash from October 2025. This decision is expected to impose an additional financial burden of around ₹1,960 crore on the state exchequer by March 2026.
