Ranchi, June 16: US companies have expressed keen interest in collaborating with Jharkhand in the exploration, mining, processing and technology-driven development of critical minerals, opening the possibility of greater international participation in the state’s mineral sector.

The prospects were discussed during a high-level meeting between Jharkhand Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar and a delegation led by US Consul General Kelly Keiderling-Diaz in Ranchi on Tuesday.

Focus on Critical and Strategic Minerals
During the meeting, officials highlighted Jharkhand’s rich mineral resources and its growing importance in India’s critical minerals ecosystem.

The delegation was informed about the state’s vast reserves of traditional minerals, including coal, iron ore, copper, bauxite, gold and limestone, and the progress made in their extraction and processing.

Officials also pointed out that Jharkhand possesses deposits of more than 20 critical and strategic minerals, including lithium, titanium, vanadium, silver and graphite, which are increasingly important for clean energy technologies, electric vehicles, batteries and advanced manufacturing.
The state is also undertaking efforts to identify and explore new mineral-bearing areas for critical minerals.
State Invites Global Mining Companies
The Chief Secretary invited US companies to participate in Jharkhand’s mining and mineral exploration sector, particularly in projects involving advanced technologies.
Through the US Consul General, the state government encouraged American firms to explore opportunities in mineral exploration, extraction, processing and value addition.
Officials noted that the government is actively engaging with leading global companies possessing expertise in modern mining technologies and sustainable mineral development practices.
Discussions also covered the possibility of interested companies acquiring mineral blocks through the prescribed auction process and undertaking mining operations using state-of-the-art technologies.
US Mining Group Shows Interest
During the meeting, it was revealed that USISPA, a consortium of US mining companies, has already established contact with the Jharkhand government.
The group has expressed interest in participating in the state’s open auction process for mineral blocks and is particularly keen on opportunities related to the exploration, mining and processing of rare and critical minerals.
The development is being viewed as a positive step toward attracting foreign investment and advanced technology into Jharkhand’s mining sector.
Strengthening International Partnerships
The discussions are part of Jharkhand’s broader efforts to position itself as a key destination for investments in critical minerals, a sector that has gained strategic importance globally amid the transition to clean energy and high-tech manufacturing.
Officials said collaborations with international companies could help accelerate mineral exploration, improve processing capabilities and promote technology transfer in the sector.
Among those present at the meeting were Mines and Geology Secretary Arva Rajkamal, Director of Mines Rahul Kumar Sinha, US Consul General Kelly Keiderling-Diaz, and other senior officials.
