New Delhi, April 19: Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi will take over as the new Navy Chief by the end of this month. He will replace outgoing Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar. Admiral Kumar will retire on April 30. Vice Admiral Tripathi is currently the Deputy Chief of the Navy.
The Ministry of Defence has announced that the government has appointed Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi as the next Chief of Naval Staff, starting from the afternoon of April 30th.
Who is Dinesh Tripathi?
Vice Admiral Tripathi was born on May 15, 1964, and joined the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985. With around 39 years of distinguished career, Vice Admiral Tripathi is a specialist in communication and electronic warfare.
Before assuming the position of Vice Chief of Naval Staff, he had served as the Fleet Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.

He also commanded INS Vinash. As a Rear Admiral, he has been the Fleet Officer Commanding of the Eastern Fleet. He has also been the Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala. An alumnus of Sainik School and National Defense Academy Khadakvasla,
Vice Admiral Tripathi has also done courses at the Naval War College in Goa and the Naval War College in the US.
He has also been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Navy Medal.
