New Delhi, Dec 16: President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth today paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Indian Army on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, December 16.

December 16 is celebrated annually as Vijay Diwas across the nation to honour the Indian Armed Forces’ triumph in the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

The entire nation is remembering the victory in the 1971 war. During this war, the Indian Army defeated the Pakistani Army, forcing them to surrender and securing the liberation of present-day Bangladesh.

A total of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered before the Indian Army, marking the largest surrender since World War II. Prime Minister Modi paid homage to the soldiers who participated in the 1971 war.

President Droupadi Murmu paid tributes to the soldiers in a post on X, saying, “On Vijay Diwas, I pay homage to our valiant soldiers who displayed indomitable courage during the 1971 war, securing victory for India. A grateful nation remembers the ultimate sacrifice of our bravehearts whose stories inspire every Indian and shall remain a source of national pride.”

PM Modi also paid tributes to the soldiers of the 1971 war. “Today, on Vijay Diwas, we honour the courage and sacrifices of the brave soldiers who contributed to India’s historic victory in 1971. Their selfless dedication and unwavering resolve safeguarded our nation and brought glory to us. This day is a tribute to their extraordinary valour and their unshakable spirit. Their sacrifices will forever inspire generations and remain deeply embedded in our nation’s history”, PM Modi posted on X.

Similarly, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to India’s brave soldiers on Vijay Diwas. “Today, on the special occasion of Vijay Diwas, the nation salutes the bravery and sacrifice of India’s armed forces. Their unwavering courage and patriotism ensured that our country remained safe. India will never forget their sacrifice and service,” the Defense Minister posted on X.

Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth also remembered the bravehearts of the 1971 war saying, “Salute to the bravery of every soldier who gave India a historic victory with his amazing courage and unparalleled valour in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. My humble tribute to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice to protect the country. This nation will always be indebted to the heroes who dedicated themselves to the country.”
