Kolkata, April 6: In the Bhupatinagar region of West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district, villagers ambushed and attacked an NIA vehicle carrying officials on Saturday. The officers had gone there to look into a bomb blast case from 2022.
When the car was attacked, a team of NIA officers who had earlier in the morning taken two people into custody in relation to the investigation were returning to Kolkata, police said.
A senior police official reported that locals surrounded the vehicle and threw stones at it, resulting in an injury to one of the officers from the NIA.

In this context, he said, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also filed a police complaint.
In a video circulating on social media, purportedly depicting the incident, locals were observed gathering around a vehicle, attempting to prevent the NIA team from taking the suspect with them.
Following the incident, a substantial deployment of central police forces has arrived at Bhupatinagar.
On December 3, 2022, an explosion in Bhupatinagar tore apart a kutcha house, killing three people. Later, the NIA took over the probe.
