Voting underway for 288 seats of Maharashtra Assembly and 38 seats of Jharkhand

Ranchi, Nov 20: For the formation of a new government in Maharashtra, voting for all 288 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat (Nanded) began on Wednesday at 7 AM and will continue until 6 PM. Strict security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful polling at all seats.

Meanwhile, voting has also commenced for the second phase in Jharkhand, covering 38 Assembly seats under tight security measures. Since 7 AM of Wednesday morning, people have been arriving at polling stations to cast their votes. In this phase, a total of 528 candidates are contesting, including 472 men and 55 women. One transgender candidate is also in the electoral arena in Jharkhand. Voting will continue till 5 PM.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several other leaders have urged citizens to actively participate in this festival of democracy.

In Jharkhand’s second phase, there are 73 candidates from the national party, of which 60 are men and 13 are women. 28 candidates of recognised state-level Jharkhand parties are also in the electoral fray. This includes 23 male and five female candidates. The number of independent candidates is 257.

Voting being held at 14,218 booths in Jharkhand

Voting is being held at 14,218 booths for the 38 assembly seats in the second phase. The number of general booths in this is 7,390 and the number of booths in Naxal-affected areas is 900. Voting will be held at 31 booths from 7 am to 4 pm. 585 companies of paramilitary forces and 60 companies of JAP have been deployed for peaceful voting. About 30 thousand district force and home guard jawans have been deployed.

In the second phase of voting in Jharkhand, elections are being in Rajmahal, Borio, Barhait, Littipara, Pakur, Maheshpur, Shikaripara, Nala, Jamtara, Dumka, Jama, Jarmundi, Madhupur, Sarath, Deoghar, Poraiyahat, Godda, Mahagama, Ramgarh, Mandu, Dhanwar, Bagodar, Jamua, Gandey, Giridih, Dumri, Gomia, Bermo, Bokaro, Chandankiyari, Sindri, Nirsa, Dhanbad, Jharia, Tundi, Baghmara, Silli and Khijri.
