Kolkata, Jan 12: In relation to the attack on Enforcement Directorate officers in the Sandeshkhali area of the North 24 Parganas district, two persons have been arrested by the West Bengal police.
On January 5, a mob attacked the Enforcement Directorate team in Sandeshkhali, resulting in injuries to several ED officials. The attack took place when they went to raid TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh’s home in relation to suspected anomalies in the state rationing scheme.
According to police sources, early on Friday morning, a team from the Basirhat district police apprehended the two suspects who were absconding.
Footage review aided police
Mehbur Mollah and Sukalam Sarkar, identified as the perpetrators, absconded from the village after assaulting the ED team during the attack, finding refuge in a concealed location.

As per information from the police source, Mehbur Mollah and Sukalam Sarkar were members of the unruly mob that attacked the officers from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) when they came to search the home of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh.
Sources mentioned that the police identified them by reviewing the footage of the assault.
Shajahan Sheikh, the main accused, is currently at large and has not been apprehended.
Three FIRs filed by WB police
Three First Information Reports (FIRs) had been filed by the West Bengal police regarding the incident, one of which was based on a complaint from the locals alleging that the ED officers were making a ruckus in the neighbourhood.
The Calcutta High Court on Thursday issued a stay on the police probe against ED officers until March 31st.
