Daltonganj, August 22: Women police personnel stayed away from a three-district shooting competition held recently at the ground of the JAP Battalion in Lesliganj, Palamu, prompting Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhary to question the lack of participation.
During the prize distribution ceremony, SP Kapil Chaudhary asked the participating police personnel why the women cops had not participated in the shooting competition. Some male police personnel said women cops had shown little interest in the event and had therefore stayed away from it.
The SP, however, said participation by women police personnel would have added greater significance to the event. He noted that women have performed well in shooting competitions and possess a strong competitive spirit.

“Women police personnel should also participate in such competitions. Their participation would have added greater significance to the event, especially since women have performed exceptionally well in shooting,” Chaudhary said.
He also suggested that SDPOs should participate in shooting competitions and try their hands at the sport.
Pistols, INSAS and Carbines Used
The competition involved firing with pistols, INSAS rifles and carbines. Participants competed in three positions — standing, kneeling and lying down. Each participant was required to fire five rounds within six seconds.
The SP also pointed out that participants did not use ear muffs or ear plugs during the firing sessions.
According to sources, around 500 rounds were fired during the competition, with nearly 10 per cent of the shots missing the target board.
Latehar Police Win Overall Championship
Latehar district police emerged as the overall champion, while Garhwa secured second place and Palamu finished third.
“We were the hosts and finished third. Nevertheless, we feel proud to have facilitated the participation of the Latehar and Garhwa police teams and congratulate the winners,” the SP said.
