Jamshedpur, July 7: The southwest monsoon continues to remain active over Jharkhand, with widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms reported across various parts of the state.

Heavy rainfall was also recorded at isolated locations, with Chandwa in Latehar district receiving the highest rainfall of 90.2 mm in the past 24 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast warning of heavy rainfall on July 7 in isolated areas over the western and adjoining southern parts of Jharkhand.

Moreover, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 Kmph are also likely at isolated places across the state.

For July 8 and 9, the IMD has predicted thunderstorm and lightning activity at isolated places as the monsoon system continues to influence the region.

According to weather officials, the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from Suratgarh, Sirsa, Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Daltonganj, Bankura, Digha, and further southeastward into the northeast Bay of Bengal.

A low-pressure area has formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha under the influence of a cyclonic circulation.

This system, extending up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level and tilting southwestward with height, is expected to move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh in the next 2–3 days.

Furthermore, a trough now extends from the northeast Arabian Sea to this low-pressure area via north Gujarat, central Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, and south Jharkhand, at altitudes between 3.1 Km and 5.8 Km, also tilting southward with height.

The meteorological department has advised residents to stay updated with local weather alerts and take precautions, especially in areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
