THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, May 7: India launched a decisive overnight air operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror facilities across Pakistan (four locations) and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)- five locations. According to sources, the strikes were aimed at camps located in areas such as Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sialkot, Barnala, Bhimber, and Kotli.

The high-value targets destroyed during the strike included the Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, Markaz Taiba in Muridke—known for links to 26/11 perpetrators—and the Shawai Nallah Camp in Muzaffarabad. Other facilities hit were Mehmoona Joya in Sialkot, Markaz Ahle Hadith in Barnala, Markaz Abbas and Maskar Raheel Shahid in Kotli district, as well as Markaz Syedna Bilal and Sarjal / Tehra Kalan.

Leading the national briefing on this high-impact operation were Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, accompanied by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. They provided details of the precision strikes that unfolded in the early hours of May 7.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, an officer from the Corps of Signals, is no stranger to breaking barriers. In 2016, she made history as the first woman to command an Indian Army contingent in a multinational exercise—Exercise Force 18—held in Pune with participation from 18 countries.

Her distinguished service includes deployment as a UN military observer in Congo in 2006 and a longstanding involvement in peacekeeping operations since 2010.

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, who dreamt of flying since school, became the first in her family to join the armed forces. With a background in engineering and NCC training, she was commissioned as a helicopter pilot and granted a permanent commission in 2019.

She has flown Cheetah and Chetak helicopters across challenging terrains in J&K and the Northeast, accumulating over 2,500 flight hours. One of her notable missions took place in Arunachal Pradesh in November 2020.
